Homework
The Year 6 children will use their planners to log their spelling homework each week. These planners should be brought into school daily, as this establishes a good working habit for secondary school. This space is a great way for children and parents to access important weekly messages, homework tasks, spelling words/test dates, Times tables Rockstars battles, home reading information, and more.
Maths Homework:
Maths homework will be handed out on a Friday and due in on Tuesday. A mininum of 20 minutes work is required, but we do not limit children to this. Children will bring home a Scofield book and an exersice book to complete their workings out. The exercise book does not need to be brought into school but we will mark the Scofield book weekly. Children who do not complete homework on time will be expected to catch up in their break time.
Optional booster maths - all children will have left Year 5 with their Complete Maths login. This can be used at home to support their learning.
Times tables - Times tables are crucial for developing strong mathematical skills. Fluently recalling multiplication facts builds a foundation for more advanced concepts like fractions, division, and algebra, and also improves mental arithmetic abilities and confidence in tackling mathematical problems. We strongly recommend that all children regularly access Times Tables Rock Stars to develop their fluency or to maintain it.
Reading Homework:
The children are expected to read aloud to an adult as often as possible. Reading at home does not need to be logged. Each child will be provided with a book to read aloud at home.
In addition to the Read Aloud book, your child will also bring home a book they have chosen from the class book corner or library. We have a recommended list of 10 FICTION AND 10 NON-FICTION STAR BOOKS which we encourage children to pick to widen their reading experience of different genres, authors, and themes.

General Information
Attendance - Please let the school office know immediately when your child is absent and give a reason. If your child is away for more than two days or is absent on Friday and still absent the following Monday, please ring to update the school (unfortunately we cannot accept messages via other children or parents). Repeated short absences will mean your child will miss vital elements of the curriculum and though we endeavour to ‘catch up’, it is never the same.
Uniform - Please make sure that all school uniform is clearly labelled as it helps the children to identify their belongings. Please remind your child to bring a coat every day in the winter months and encourage your child to bring a named water bottle to school every day. PE kits should be worn to school on PE days. Every child in Year 6 will take part in PE on a Tuesday and a Thursday every week.
Medication - Please let the school and your child's class teacher know if your child has any condition requiring medication, including allergies or asthma. If your child needs to be on a course of medication then please complete the relevant form which is kept in the school office.
Walking to School- If you wish to give permission for your child to walk independently to/from school at any point this academic year, please fill in the form sent out via ParentMail. Without permission, we cannot let your child leave the premises independently.
If you intend for your child to arrive at school independently, they must not arrive until 8:40.
Social Media and Internet Safety - We are very aware of the issues surrounding social media and internet safety – children will learn (at an age-appropriate level) how to keep themselves safe online on a regular basis in school. Please monitor the time and access that your child has from home and let us know of any incidents and how you have resolved them.
SATs - This academic year, the SATs will take place from Monday 11th May to Thursday 14th May 2026. A presentation evening will be held to inform you of how the week will work for your child.
Revision Sessions- As you know, the end-of-year expectations for Year 6 pupils are very high. In our efforts to help them achieve their full potential and to support their transition to secondary school, we will be running revision sessions for some pupils. We are fortunate that teachers and staff members have volunteered their time to help the children in previous years. As a result, we may be able to offer small group, focused sessions for some of our pupils before and after school. We will keep you updated about this throughout the year.
